CHARACTER DETAILS

Name: Una Chin-Riley [ Number One ]
Canon: Star Trek
Canon Point: 108 The Elysian Kingdom
Age: 37

Heba or Tian? Tian. Illyrians are a people that genetically augment themselves to coexist with nature in any form, changing themselves rather than terraforming a planet to be able to live on it. Whilst magic won't be something that she's ever come across before, it'd be an interesting 'augment' for her to adjust to having and potentially using. As well, Una's someone that is driven by goals, by the desire to help and do good, someone that carefully thinks out how she's doing that before she does.

Canon Abilities/Skills:
BIO-ENGINEERING. Being Illyrian, Una has undergone bio-engineering to adapt her body to various environments. The enhancements known about are her enhanced strength, her altered immune system (that burns contaminants out of her body), increased visual acuity and enhanced stamina/resilience.

ENGINEER. Before transferring departments, Una was trained as an Engineer, completing both her Starfleet training in Engineering and serving on her first two postings as an Engineer. She is trained in starship systems repair, diagnostics and management and is able to synthesise something when ordinary systems or equipment fails.

PILOT. After transferring departments, Una worked as the ship's pilot (helm and navigation), able to pilot both starships and smaller shuttlecrafts. As navigator, she's used readings to determine ship position and speed, and trajectories of objects around them, working in coordination with the helm to manoeuvre and control the ship as well as having used the ship's shields, and weapons and scanning other ships or what's around them.

OPERATIONS. As XO of the Enterprise, Una needs to be familiar with ship functioning and bridge stations, having worked on the bridge as what in the future might be known as operations or tactical, making decisions for the ship when the Captain isn't aboard, managing operations and leading landing parties or missions, such as a first contact situation during leave from the Enterprise.

COMBAT. As a trained Starfleet Officer, Una is trained in hand-to-hand combat and combat using various weaponry, both short-range and long-range.

LANGUAGES. Una is fluent in her native Illyrian tongue and Federation Standard (English?) and has studied the Vulcan language for numerous years, though she is better at reading it than speaking it.

re: Una's immune system, I am happy to still allow things to affect/infect her for the purposes of any plot, with the difference being in how quickly her immune system kicks in to burn out the contaminant. Una's immune system also likely gives her better temperature resistance at least in heat/warmer temperatures, given the heat produced by her body to burn out a contaminant. What effect this has on colder temperatures is unknown. Una's immune system, when active, also has the capability of potentially causing someone else to be cured of a disease (causing them to generate chimeric antibodies), though that would be done only with player consent and case-by-case as it may not always happen.

Suitability:
Starfleet trains its officers to be able to adapt to situations, to complete missions under any circumstances. Whilst the Enterprise was out and away from the Federation-Klingon War, Una has been in battles before, has made tactical and command decisions and has needed to use stealth when necessary. I'm interested in seeing how Una reacts to the missions and the tasks they have to perform, how she'll pick her tethers (especially with her secret) and how she'll react to both losing her augmentations (whilst chipped) but having a new "augmentation" (through the magic), particularly as this isn't done in the reasons why Illyrians modify themselves: it's not to do with nature but with war (which is why there's an augmentation ban in the Federation).

CHARACTER QUESTIONNAIRE

What are your character's feelings on freedom? How would they define freedom? How important is it to them? Would they fight for it, or have they fought for it in the past? If they have, how did they go about it?
No one should be a prisoner, at least no one should be a prisoner without good cause. Breaking the law, doing something criminal or immoral and being enslaved are very different things to Una: she expects that if she's ever found out that she'll lose her freedom, that she'll be in prison and she doesn't disagree with it -- she's broken Starfleet regulations, lied and effectively committed a crime, she'll take her consequences. However, when it comes to a person's freedom to live and when they are someone that hasn't hurt anyone or done wrong? She'll try to help them, she'll disagree with why they're imprisoned and will (without crossing interplanetary boundaries and starting trouble) try to free them. Freedom is important, you should get to live your life, you should get to explore your dreams... and if you have to break a rule that doesn't actually hurt anyone to do it? She can't say she hasn't done it before and wouldn't do it again.

Describe a formative moment in your character's life, something that changed them and defined who they are as a person.
Una has always been pretty certain about who she is, what she is, proud of her heritage and what it means to her. One of the things that she was certain of was that she wanted to join Starfleet: ever since she'd first seen the stars it had always been her dream. There was only one problem with that: Illyrians were banned in Starfleet, and forbidden to join or be members due to their bio-engineered nature. Una didn't let it stop her, she (presumably) had her medical data falsified, pretending to be human and giving herself a "human" name so that she could join Starfleet. Whilst Una doesn't regret her decision and would never change it, she's worked damn hard to be the best officer she can be (and has gotten herself a reputation for being exactly that) it does mean that she's had a hard and heavy secret to keep: no one can know she's Illyrian, no one can really know her, she's always looking over her shoulder and has to be very careful about her augmentations (especially her immune system). It's only been recently that something has potentially jeopardised that, making her more cautious than ever.

Does your character have a favorite person? If so, how would they describe that person? What do they like about that person? What do they dislike? If they don't have a favorite person, what would they look for in a favorite person? What traits would draw them to another person? What traits could they tolerate that others might not be able to?
Una has two favourite people: her captain, who she's kind of in love with, and her best friend, and whilst they are wildly different people there are shared traits between them that make it easy to see why they're her favourite people. Both of them are compassionate, they're trustworthy, they will help other people, they stand by a friend (even when she's kept a secret and lied) and will always be there for you. Una works best with and likes people best when they are ultimately good at heart, when they look out for other people and when they try to make the world a better place or just brighten someone's day.

What has your character's arc been like so far? How have they developed from their first appearance to their canon point?
Una has always been known throughout her story as someone that works hard, is fierce and a bit bossy, a little intense but all-around a good officer. Even when Una was a cadet, someone still fresh and learning her role she displayed the qualities of an excellent officer: she was quick on her feet, steady under pressure and ultimately would sacrifice herself to save the lives of the rest of the crew. As a junior officer, Una had a habit of rejecting being recognised: she refused promotions, and commendations, wanting to just get on and explore the galaxy. She's evolved from that, accepting promotions, doing her job (even if recognition she still rejects at times) and calling out other junior officers for not acknowledging their goals or potential.

We've also seen her learn to relax a little more, build relationships and friendships (despite her secret) and have to learn to live with that secret being outed: something far out of Una's control, deal with the consequences of it and how it affects her friendships. Whilst she's still dedicated, intense and a damn good officer she's learned more about herself and her comforts, how she wants to be seen and how the people in her life fit properly with her: they'll stand by her despite her secret (and lies).

How would you like to continue your character's arc in the game? How would you like them to develop? What would you like to have them accomplish?
It's kind of repeating the suitability a little but I'm interested in some of the internal conflict surrounding being Illyrian, being modified, the will she won't she regarding learning/using magic, whether she'll remove her chip, whether she'll reveal her secret intentionally or something else reveals it, how tethers are handled. (And obvious mission things bc they're great). One good nice goal would be for Una to feel comfortable enough with someone to reveal that she is an Illyrian by choice, since she's removed from Starfleet, stigma and the same consequences here.
